Melissa Shekinah Wong (b. 1987)

“As an interdisciplinary artist channeling natural energies, Melissa explores the unseen web of life that binds all living things to the cosmos. Her practice fuses semi-abstract somatic experiences with deep ecological storytelling. Beyond mere aesthetics, her artwork serves as a 'living chronicle' of nature’s pulse—a gentle yet powerful reminder that we are never separate from the earth.”

She began her artistic journey in 2023 with her debut solo exhibition, “BUT FIRST, LOVE.”, in Sarawak—a creative manifesto establishing love as both the starting point and the guiding conviction of her work.

Her artistic language underwent a pivotal evolution during a 2024 residency in New Zealand. Immersed in its pristine landscapes, she developed her natural energy series, “
MYSTIC EARTH" , transitioning toward a semi-abstract style guided by intuition, the subconscious, and somatic perception to capture the unseen frequencies of the natural world.

Currently, Melissa has returned to her roots in Sarawak, Borneo Island, Malaysia. In her latest on going work “
SACRED GROUND”, she translates the raw, primal rhythms of her homeland into visual form, accompanied by video narratives that document the physical and ritualistic nature of her artistic process. By bridging international insights with the ancestral energy of Sarawak, she is creating a visceral dialogue between the earth’s vibrations, universal interconnection, and the human spirit.

Melissa has participated in numerous local and international group exhibitions. She is a member of the Sibu Contemporary Arts Association, a committee member of the Sarawak Artists Society, and a member of British Art Therapy Association.
